Level 1 Class Descriptions

We use Masterbooks, US Geography and Social Studies and generally cover 2 states a week following the book which works in alphabetical order. I send home a few worksheets to be completed with each state. We will journey through each state to discover culture and traditions, God's natural wonders, history markers and history makers. We will learn statehood dates, capital cities, state flowers, state birds and state nicknames too.

Each week a new spelling list is given with a specific focus on building your child's spelling and reading ability.

We use Shurley English Grammar to help students become competent writers by understanding sentence structure. We incorporate jingles to help students learn the definitions for the eight parts of speech. These definitions help students learn the vocabulary necessary for understanding basic sentence structure. We will also use a specific and systematic question-and-answer flow to accurately label the eight parts of speech.
