This class will cover the history, geography, and people of Tennessee. In addition, we will overview the geography of all 50 states by their regions. At home, students will read brief history readings and complete mapwork practice. There will also be quizzes every few weeks on states and capitals of each region. In class, we will learn geography terms, state symbols, and the history of TN and its impact on the nation in a hands-on and engaging way. In addition, we will study the presidents and other famous people born in TN.
Occasionally they will be assigned creative projects to present on what they’ve learned to help practice their public speaking skills.
Local historical field trips will be facilitated and highly encouraged.
Do your kids love to cook or help out in the kitchen? This class will be perfect for them! We will learn kitchen etiquette and safe practices in the kitchen. We will use a blend of three books and curriculums that contain wonderful recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and even appetizers! Students will spend the first few weeks going over safety in the kitchen and learning things like how to measure, what ingredients are and why they are important, wet and dry ingredients and different measuring tools- just to name a few. We will then dive into cooking!
We will try our best to accommodate allergies, but some may not be accommodated. You can speak to me directly with any concerns about that. Students will not have much homework in this class but would be encouraged each week to practice their skills they’ve learned at home and maybe even to prepare some meals for their family. One thing is for sure, this class will be a blast and students will come out of it knowing how to prepare a multitude of dishes and desserts for future life skills that we all need as we grow. We hope you can join us!
God’s Design for the Physical World In this science course we will be using Masterbooks God’s Design for the Physical World. Students will learn about the world God created and how it works. Through fun lessons, hands-on activities, and simple experiments, students will explore basic science topics while learning that God is the Creator of all things. Students will learn about motion, matter, energy, and other physical science ideas in an easy-to-understand way.
This class encourages curiosity and helps students enjoy learning while seeing God’s design in everyday life. This class will help students: • Learn basic science concepts • Ask questions and make observations • Participate in hands-on activities • Understand that God created the world with purpose This class is a great fit for young learners who enjoy exploring and discovering science concepts.
Meet the Masters In this fun and creative art class, students will learn about famous artists and create artwork inspired by them. Students will be introduced to well-known artists such as Wassily Kandinsky, Piet Mondrian, Vincent van Gogh, and Giuseppe Arcimboldo, along with other artists throughout the year. Each lesson includes easy-to-understand artist stories, colorful examples, and hands-on art projects.
Students will learn how different artists used colors, shapes, and lines, and then try these ideas in their own artwork. Students will learn basic art skills and ideas such as: • Primary colors and shapes • Mixing and using colors • Abstract art • Fun visual tricks (optical illusions) • How art can show feelings and help us notice the world around us This class is perfect for elementary students who enjoy being creative, learning about artists, and having fun making art.
In this class we will be going through the Bible from Creation to Moses with stories, videos, hands on activities, crafts, and games using the Driven by Grace curriculum called Foundations of the Bible. We will touch on the historical, cultural, and biblical context of these scriptures. We will have fun digging into these Bible stories in creative ways! This curriculum is not meant to teach any doctrine and questions and discussions about doctrinal issues will be redirected to parents at home. As an enrichment class, there will be no homework but information will go home each week about what was covered and opportunities to dig deeper at home! To review a sample of what stories this class will cover, visit Driven by Grace's website for the Foundations of the Bible volume 1 sample!
