Art Appreciation

In this class we will look at beautiful masterpieces and discuss the artists who crafted them. There will be discussion about how worldview and culture influences art. Through games and activities we will learn the important elements that make masterpieces. This is an Art elective worth 1 credit. There will be some reading, writing, answering questions, and projects in this class but most of the work will be done in class.

Spanish I teaches students to greet people, describe family and friends, talk about hobbies, and communicate about other topics, such as home life, occupations, travel, and medicine. Students will use Easy Spanish Step by Step and Somos curriculum to develop confidence in speaking, writing, reading and listening in Spanish. Students will also explore cultures in different Spanish-speaking countries around the world. Students are expected to participate in class weekly and perform dialogues and presentations in Spanish throughout the year. The students will receive one foreign language for this class.

In Spanish II, students will review Spanish I grammar and vocabulary. They will then continue to build a foundation in writing, reading, listening, and speaking in Spanish. Students will learn multiple tenses in this class. They will use Easy Spanish Step by Step and Somos curriculum to grow in their communication skills. Students will also explore cultures in different Spanish-speaking countries around the world. Students are expected to participate in class weekly with an emphasis on speaking in Spanish. They will perform dialogues and presentations in Spanish throughout the year. The students will receive one foreign language for this class.

We’ll be learning conversational American Sign Language skills in this ASL 1 class. Fundamentals like basic vocabulary, grammar, fingerspelling, and numbers (as well as history and Deaf culture) are woven into a “frequency of use” teaching approach. You’ll be able to have real life conversations faster as you learn this visual-gestural language in class.

Lessons are based on a university level curriculum, making it possible for you to enter a college course right away or even test out of the course for college credit.

ASL is a visual-gestural language and the vast majority of our classes will be “voices off” (no talking).

Lessons will involve interactive presentations with your deaf teacher, watching videos, partner practice, and group games & activities. At home practice is facilitated through a private website with review videos and practice quizzes. Each of 3 Unit Tests will include written and presentation portions.

We continue honing our sign language skills in ASL 2 with more conversation, grammar, and Deaf culture studies. Expect the same “frequency of use” approach in our interactive lessons and projects.

In this second year of ASL, you’ll take a deep dive into classifiers, non-manual markers, and storytelling while broadening your vocabulary base and solidifying the foundational basics.

Just like ASL 1, our classroom is completely “voices off.”

Pre-requisite: ASL 1 at Scholeio or other equivalent course (ask to apply for placement test)

Join us on a unique adventure! Starting with an overview of career opportunities available in the veterinary science, the chapters detail topics on cells, tissues, systems, nutrition, species comparison, principles of disease, disease prevention and diagnosis, zoonotic disease, surgery, and economic decision-making in veterinary practice. Each chapter features "A Day in the Life of a Veterinarian" vignette that relays James Herriot-type stories with relevance to clinical practice, and makes the text interesting and informative to students.

The textbook will be "Introduction to Veterinary Science", 1st Edition by James Lawhead & Meecee Baker.

We will follow the class guide from Homeschool Helper Online. There will be at least one field trip to a microfarm that is close to Scholeio.
