Level K Class Descriptions

Masterbooks Adventures in Science Level 1 will be used for science each week. In class, the units will be introduced and explained. There will be visual aids and hands-on activities as often as possible to help students have a better understanding of science concepts. Students are expected to complete the units by doing science two days each week at home. The curriculum is laid out in a very easy to follow format with things people typically already have at home. Each student will have the opportunity to create a science notebook highlighting what has been learned throughout the year.

Social Studies and Literature are combined using Five in a Row. This curriculum takes great literature and uses that to introduce a wide variety of concepts ranging from the social and emotional to geography and more. A book will be read each week in class to introduce the concepts, and an activity sheet will be sent home with a range of activity suggestions that go along with each story. Parents can choose to purchase the corresponding books, get them from the library, or simply search for a read aloud of the books on YouTube. Each week, the student and parents can complete as many or as few of the corresponding activities as they choose or even add some of their own.

In level K phonics, we will be using the Abeka Phonics Letters and Sounds Level K

workbook to facilitate the understanding of letter names, phonemes, special sounds, and blends. In addition to the workbook, sight words will be sent home for students to practice to help with reading fluency.
